Housing

There is no issue more vital and pressing to the 6th Congressional District than housing.  Therefore, Congressman Meeks conducts a foreclosure clinic in which he helps constituents with their mortgage matters, including providing help to mitigate mortgages defaults and advice on home-loan modifications.  He continues to assist with programs promulgated by the Obama Administration, including the Government Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP).

In addition, Congressman Meeks has been working with NYCHA, the New York congressional delegation, Mayor Bloomberg, and Governor Paterson, to find a solution to New York’s Section 8 voucher crisis.  In Washington, his office has been in frequent contact with HUD and other Members of the New York congressional delegation to brainstorm creative solutions to ensure that families will have access to affordable housing.

In Washington, Congressman Meeks encourages an active dialogue with Administration officials, academics, and the private sector to formulate legislation that will provide a long-term fix to our housing market and the economy.  He does not believe in “quick fixes” that will provide short-term gain, but ensure long-term pain.
